    On May 21 2024, Yubico announced the general avaiability of Yubico 5 Series and Security Key Firmware Version 5.7.

    The new firmware includes a range of upgrades for the 5 Series Keys including:

    • Enhanced Pin Complexity
    • Enterprise Attestation
    • FIDO Client to Authenticator Protocol (CTAP) 2.1
    • Expanded Passkey and Passwordless Storage Options
    • Expansion and Enhancement of Public Key Algorithms

    As of 24 Dec most Standard 5 Series and all Security Key Series keys are shipping with 5.7.1.

    5 FIPS Series Keys

    Yubico 5 FIPS Series Keys are not available with version 5.7.1. All FIPS keys are still manufactured with NIST Certified Firmware versions. Given typical certification timeframes we do not expect FIPS series keys with 5.7.x firmware until mid to late 2025.
